Yale Field

Taking things back to April 14th...We were able to squeeze in some engagement pictures with our fabulous photographer Chris Volpe. Since Chancho proposed to me at Yankee Stadium, I really wanted our engagement photos to reflect that. I wanted to get pictures taken at a baseball stadium, perferrably Yankee Stadium, but once I looked into how expensive that was, we couldn't do it. We definitely put that thought out there for a month going back and forth about how it would be a once in a life time opportunity to have the stadium to ourselves and we could never get that again, but reality knocked on the door and we said we couldn't spend over $2000 for a photo shoot.
So I spoke to Chris and and asked him if he knew of any cool stadiums that we could take pictures at. He loved the idea and automatically suggested we take our pictures at Yale Field, in Connecticut. He has connections there as he is always taking pictures for the school. The date was set and I was beyond excited to have these pictures done.
The morning of the pictures we got a phone call from Chris saying that there might be a slight problem. There was going to be a double header that day between Yale & Harvard. We might not have access to the stadium. I sure as hell was not going to postpone the pictures or settle for a different venue. I stuck my ground and said we'll go and do what we can. I was hoping someone would have a weakness for love and still let us on the field.
When we showed up the teams were already in uniform and roaming the field, but Chris had gotten there before us and was able to speak to someone. The man did have a weakness for love! He gave us the okay to take pictures on the field until the team was ready to start warmups. So thus began our wonderful photo shoot. We were there for about 2 hours. I was in heaven. It turned out to be a perfect day weather wise, we couldn't have gotten anything better.
Here are a few pictures that I can share:

Winter Wonderland

As the snow continues to fall, I am now cuddled up beneath a few layers of blankets. Earlier, I was out about in my yard and neighborhood taking a few pictures before the few rays of light that were left disappeared for good behind the snowy clouds. I took about 44 pictures in all, I'm not sure they really capture the storm that we had though. I still don't think it was anything like they were saying it was going to be. I was at work on time by 9am and we kept the store open until 5pm. There were customers shopping. The roads were fine on major roadways, but side streets weren't that great. The road to my house has only been plowed 2 times all day. It's pretty slushy right now. Thank goodness for 4 wheel drive. I'll be back in tomorrow all day to keep me busy. Friday is a Valentine's day for us. Chancho has a surprise for me. All I know is that dinner and a movie await me, but he has warned me that I will have to do a lot of walking. I'm not sure how that plays into the dinner and a movie, but I'm excited to see what he has in store for me. I'll be sure to fill you all in!

Here are some of the pictures that I felt came out okay:

Film Strips

I got a scanner for Christmas and I have been scanning a few things here and there, but I'm really waiting until my external hard drive comes before I do any heavy work. My ultimate goal is to scan the million pictures that the family has so that they will be organized and saved. So far I am loving the scanner. It has the capability to reduce the fading on the pictures, remove scratches and fix the backlighting problems in some photos. It also allows me to scan the negatives. There are a bunch of negatives just laying around that we don't know where the pictures are to them. This was my practice run at using the negative holder in the scanner. I am also practicing on how to use the photoshop program that came with the scanner. The pictures that I scanned were from a roll of film that I had in my purse for over a year and finally decided to get developed. I picked out a few to share.

Pictures!

I've been very busy today cleaning. I cleaned my room, my closet, donated clothes, worked on making snowflakes to hang in the windows and in the process I stumbled across my on going project of redecorating my room. Which means I found my pictures that I will be hanging up on my walls. They had been tucked behind the couch out of the way, so not to get ruined. I thought I'd share with you all which ones made the cut and will be hung on my wall, eventually. The theme, which has been previously mentioned, will be a New York City theme. I know there are a few beach pictures also included, but I just love the beach so much, I couldn't not have a few in there. The majority of them, as you will see, were taken during the winter season, but for me, that's when I love the city. It is decorated and just looks great, plus the fact that I love Christmas. I have a lot of fond memories of being in the city in the winter. I thought it would be nice to surround myself with pictures to always put a smile on my face. So here they are!

Lost Roll of Film

I had been carrying a roll of film around in my purse for probably a year now. Every time I cleaned out my purse, I just slipped it back in thinking that I would definitely get to CVS to develop it, but it just never happened, that is until yesterday. While I was at CVS I suddenly remembered that I had that roll of film and I handed it in to the photography lab. It turns out that it was a color roll of film, which is odd because I usually take black and whites when using my 35mm. I thankfully remembered today to pick them up today. Turns out that they were from not this past summer, but the summer before. The only reason why I knew that was because I had taken a picture of a thermometer and it said it was 90 out. It didn't get close to 90 at any point this past summer. I wasn't very happy with any of the pictures I took. It seemed that I was just taking pictures because I had film to waste. I'd love to share them on here, but I don't have a scanner. That is on my birthday list this year.

Here are a few of my favorite black and whites (click on the picture to see the full image):

Redecorating

I've been occupying my time this past week with the decision to go ahead with redecorating my room. I'm attempting to make into a NYC themed room. I don't have many things done, and a very vague image in my head as to what the end result should look like, but it's definitely a work in progress. The idea came from when I was up in bumblefuck NY at college and I wanted to have "home" with me. I raided the school bookstore and bought every poster they had of NYC skyline and times square. It helped remind me that there was still a city that had stores that were open 24/7 and within walking distance rather than a 45 min. drive and lights so bright that you couldn't see the stars. As a result, I know have these posters at home and I'd like to still get some use out of them rather than throwing them away.

My main focus is pictures. It is a huge hobby of mine and it takes up a lot of space and sadly money. I love black and white photography. My grandfather has a lovely 35mm camera that has been passed down to me and I've taken advantage of that. I'd some day like to have a dark room myself. I can get lost in one for hours at a time. It truly is relaxing. So surrounding my NYC posters, I've decided to put up pictures that I've taken around NYC. I have just discovered the art of using black and white along with adding just a touch of color to it. The next set of pictures that must be hung up are from my years at college. Which means there are endless photos that could be hung up, but I have to somehow figure out how to narrow it down to only a few.

The next focus is paint color. I'd like to do the room red, for the big apple, but I know that painting a room red is just a disaster waiting to happen. For that reason, I'm going to stray away from it and try blue. However, I'm thinking that that might have the same problem, unless I do a lighter blue, but I'm not too sure I could handle a light blue room. I have curtains that are white with dark blue stripes, so I had the thought to do the walls an off white with one wall that had blue stripes to match the curtains. It would be the wall without a window. It might work and it could also bring in the Yankees aspect of NYC. Still lots to ponder about.
