Thank You All

Only a few days have passed since the "big" conversation happened, but there has been a lot progress that has taken place. Thank you all who commented and were able to give some advice and to settle my negative thoughts. It is great to know that there are people out there to support others in similar situations. It is greatly appreciated, especially when I feel that no one else understands.

We have had a few conversations here and there to discuss what we can do to help our relationship move in a positive direction and I thought I'd list a few of our solutions for others to read about in case they themselves stumble upon this situation.
  • Movie Nights: We subscribed to Netflix. It is cost effective and is delivered to the mailbox to erase the time consuming drive to a local movie store. We will be taking turns picking our movies.
  • Combining Family and Girlfriend time. We've realized that these two worlds do not need to be seperate. It also pleases both sides and Chancho doesn't have to be torn between the both of us.
  • Less Sleeping. This is still a work in progress, but Chancho did agree to give it a try with only sleeping 8-9 hours, instead of 12. This should open up a big chunk of time that can be spent with loved ones.
  • Quality Time. The time we spend together is more about us and less about extra activities or useless doings. When we are together it should be about us interacting and really connecting.

It is still a work in progress and I have realized that this is something we need to work at together and leave open a line of free communication. Once that communication stops, all will go haywire. Hopefully these few acts will benefit us and others that need some options.

Thanks once more to everyone!

  2. Relationships really ARE a lot of work. I don't feel like I can ever just coast along. There's always something to improve or work on. Those things you listed sound really good. We watch a lot of red box movies. We did netflix for awhile and they were really great.

The sleep thing is probably one of my biggest issues. 12 hours! No wonder you were frustrated. :) 12 hours is a total luxury. My husband can sleep 12 or more hours easily. It drives me crazy. and then once he gets up, and once he is ready and has eaten I feel like we've wasted the day. So frustrating. So 8 hours is when I might wake him up and coax him out of bed, and then sometimes we don't "need" him and I let him sleep in all he wants as a treat.

I'm learning it's all about balance. both working towards the greater good and then there's room to give or take as needed. I don't know if that makes sense. It's almost 2 in the morning where I am! Your apple pie sounds good. You'll have to tell us how it worked out. I prefer the homeade crusts, but yeah, SO much easier to buy premade. You'll have to tell us if his family like the pie if you make one. Oh, and by the way, do you know what their feeling are about you and/or your relationship? Just curious. If you feel like sharing that is.

  3. Read your previous post and glad to see your working it out.
Communication is the key and to be as honest and open as possible, just don't say things you will later regret!
Thats great that your not making him choose between his fam or you,it is all about the fam in MOST Latino families and in mine it certainly is,we believe in the blood is thicker than water saying. It is a big deal that the inlaws get along with the outlaws as we call them, cause as you are finding out we like to spend lots of time with our families.
They do love to sleep don't they.
    Hang in there!
